Nothin’ But A Hound Dog

To the Editor:

Canine Advocates of Newtown, Inc’s “Nothin’ But a Hound Dog” Sock Hop was a fun evening for all who attended, and raised over $4,000 for the Building Fund for a New Pound.

There are so many people to thank, especially Adria Henderson, who came up with the idea for the hop. She spearheaded the entire event, with the help of Jane Hellman and Karen Nash. Bob Nash created all the decorations for the evening — foot-high wooden notes as centerpieces for every table, a 1957 Chevy where pictures were taken, and the records and stands that flanked the entrance to the town hall gym, enhancing the memorable 50s atmosphere.

Frank McCloskey orchestrated the silent auction perfectly; Jane Calverley meticulously kept track of all the money for tickets and the auction; a team of Canine Advocates volunteers helped set up and clean up; Yankee Wine & Liquor supplied the beer and wine; Dunkin’ Donuts supplied the coffee; Snapple supplied the soft drinks; Ed Moran made the great signs; and many local merchants provided silent auction items.

Canine Advocates of Newtown is most grateful to everyone who bought a ticket, or supported us in any way for our inaugural Sock Hop. Each event brings us closer to our goal of a new facility for Newtown’s homeless animals.

Sincerely,

Virginia Jess
