Opera Series Will Offer A Rare Look At ‘Mefistofele’

SOUTHBURY — The Southbury Senior Center’s “Afternoon At The Opera” series will feature a rare showing of Boito’s masterpiece Mefistofele at 1 pm on Wednesday, May 16, in Pomperaug Woods auditorium, 80 Heritage Road.

Based on the Faust legend of selling his soul to the Devil (Mefistofele), the showing at Pomperaug Woods is from a 1989 performance by the chorus and orchestra of The San Francisco Opera Company and stars Samuel Ramey as Mefistofele, one of his most acclaimed roles.

Admission is free, and refreshments (courtesy of Pomperaug Woods) will be served.

Addition information is available by calling Carole Damon at Southbury Senior Center, 262-0651, or Becky Butler, activities director at Pomperaug Woods, 262-6557.
