Our Last Old-Fashion

Luxury...Lost?

To the Editor:

How many times have I gone to the full-service Citgo Station on Church Hill Road because of my three small children — the last thing I want to do is get all of them out of the car to pay for gas! Then to find out that luxury, one of our few old-fashioned conveniences left, is going to become a new self-service “IN-convenience” station!

I know I am not the only one that feels so strongly about the ease of that station — how many times are cars backed out into the road because the weather is: too hot, too rainy, too cold, too snowy...and there are the attendants either baking in the sun or freezing in the cold rain working away to make our lives easier — and with a smile at that. Ross, the manager, talks about “Village Days” when the seniors come to get their tanks filled — there are many people who physically cannot get their own gas...the full-service Citgo is a necessity for them.

What we do not need in this town is another self-serve station. Yes, there is another full-service station, but way down on Route 25; some people just cannot drive that far for one reason or another.

Next time you’re at the full-service Citgo Station on Church Hill Road, please take a moment to drop a note to the attendants letting them know how much we need the full-service station; they can pass that note to Ross who can send it to the corporate headquarters. Maybe they’ll keep an island for full-service.

This is one old-fashioned luxury that we need to care about in this modern, full-speed day and age!

Sincerely,

Liz Sortino
