Registration Underway For TheatreWorks New Milfordâs Summer Youth Programs
NEW MILFORD â The TheatreWorks Kids and TheatreWorks Kids: Stage 2 programs for kids and teens are currently accepting applicants from young thespians for summer 2007.
TheatreWorks Kids, now in its 11th year, is under the direction of childrenâs theater instructor Beth Bonnabeau-Harding. It is open to 20 students who will be entering grades four through eight in the fall.
The program will help young stage performers gain the skills needed to mount a full performance of a one-act stage musical geared specifically towards middle-school-aged students, Disneyâs High School Musical. Rehearsals and play production activities will be held in 16 three-hour sessions, Monday through Friday, 9 am until noon, from June 25 to July 20. At the programâs conclusion, the students will hold two performances for the public on Saturday, July 21, at 11 am and 2 pm.
Enrollment is per child $325 per child ($280 for siblings) on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The TheatreWorks Stage 2 program for students entering high school through age 19 will continue for its third year, and will feature a new theme: Broadway and the Bard. The programâs grand finale will be a public performance of Shakespeareâs most notable scenes and soliloquies, paired with songs from popular Broadway adaptations of the bardâs works, such as Kiss Me Kate and West Side Story. Students will also be introduced to general improvisational exercises, production study, and both dramatic and musical audition techniques.
TheatreWorks Stage 2 is under the direction of Norwalk High School choral director Susan Pettibone; Shakespearean actor, director, and instructor Jane Farnol; and New Milford schoolteacher Keir Hansen.
TheatreWorks Stage 2 is also limited to 20 young performers, at $290 per student ($240 for siblings). The workshop will run for 16 three-hour sessions, Monday through Friday, 1 to 4 pm, beginning July 16 and ending with a matinee performance for the public on Saturday, August 4, at 2 pm.
Students who have been through the TheatreWorks Kids program in 2006 or 2007 can attend the kids program this year for only $299 ($280 for siblings) and the Stage 2 program for $270 ($240 siblings).
