Route 34
Police report that while they were on patrol on Route 34 at about 4:30 pm April 26, they spotted motorist Sheryl Raffone, 33, of New Haven driving a vehicle that did not have a front marker plate on it, so they stopped her to investigate.
Police charged Raffone with failure to display a marker plate, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, and with driving without automotive insurance.
After processing the case, police released Raffone from custody on $100 bail for a May 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
BMW Vs Acura
Police report an accident involving two sedans at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the off-ramp for Exit 11 of Interstate 84 at about 5:45 pm April 26.
As motorist Shaun Coakley, 18, of Dinglebrook Lane, who was driving a 2001 BMW, turned right from the off-ramp to enter eastbound Wasserman Way, the BMW struck the rear end of a 2006 Acura driven by Diane Tyrrell, 51, of Brandywine Lane, which was standing still in an eastbound line of traffic, police said.
There were no injuries. Police gave Coakley a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Subaru Vs Dodge
About 8:30 am April 27, motorist Scott Kiely, 44, of 16 Blue Spruce Drive, who was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck eastward on Botsford Hill Road, slowed to make a right turn into a driveway at 16 Botsford Hill Road, police said.
Eastbound motorist Stephanie Wishko, 23, of Monroe, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Forester, then struck the Dodge from behind, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Wishko for following too closely.
Minivan Accident
Motorist Matthew Kuruc, 17, of 14 Mountain Laurel Lane was driving a 2000 Pontiac Montana minivan eastward on Wasserman Way about 9 pm April 16, when while attempting to make a right turn onto Nunnawauk Road, skidded on the wet pavement, struck some curbing, went off the road and traveled about 100 feet before the Pontiac came to rest against some trees, police said. Neither Kuruc, nor two teenage passengers, were injured, police said.
Police gave Kuruc a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Nissan/Deer
Motorist Phillip Johnson, 67, of Westport was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima southward near 242 South Main Street about 8:30 pm April 17, when a deer leapt in front of the auto, police said. Johnson attempted to avoid the animal, but collided with it, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
Toyota Off Road
Motorist Christopher Farrington, 28, of 13 Whippoorwill Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Corolla southward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Blackman Road, about 8:12 am April 10, attempted to avoid colliding with a noncontact vehicle, but accidentally drove off the road, police said. Police issued Farrington a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Evading Responsibility
Motorist Carlos Mederos-Morjon, 24, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was waiting on westbound Berkshire Road to make a left turn onto Toddy Hill Road at about 1:37 pm April 27, police said.
Westbound motorist Russell Farmer, 45, of Hamden, who was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu sedan, then struck the Jeep from behind, police said. Farmer then drove away from the accident, police said.
State police, who were on the lookout for Farmerâs Chevrolet, found him driving on Interstate 84 in Bethel, town police said.
Town police arrested Farmer on charges of evading responsibility and following too closely. After Farmer posted $250 bail, police released him for arraignment on the charges on May 15 in Danbury Superior Court.   Â

I-84 DUI Arrest
State police said motorist Katherine Sullivan, 22, of Waterbury was driving a 2002 Honda Civic eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, at about 11 pm April 27, when she struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder. There were no injuries.
Sullivan then continued driving eastward on the highway, state police said. State police stopped Sullivan near Exit 15 in Southbury, where they gave her field sobriety tests.
State police arrested Sullivan on charges of driving under the influence and failure to drive in the established lane. She was released on $500 bail for a May 7 court appearance.
Queen Street DUI
Police report that while on radar patrol about 11:19 pm on April 29, they detected motorist James Callahan, 21, of Monroe driving northward on Queen Street at 74 miles per hour. Police said they spotted the violation near 54 Queen Street.
Police said Callahan did not stop for a police officerâs signal to stop. Also, Callahan drove through a stop sign at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue, police said.
Police said they stopped Callahan without incident at 5 Queen Street, after which they gave him field sobriety tests.
Police charged Callahan with driving under the influence, speeding, failure to obey a stop sign, and failure to obey a police officerâs signal. After posting $100 bail, police released Callahan for a May 15 court appearance.
Moving Violation
Police said they stopped motorist Marie Manz-Lavalla, 47, of 84 South Main Street near the intersection of Wasserman Way and Oakview Road at about 7 pm April 30 to investigate.
Police said that computerized records indicated that the vehicleâs registration was suspended due to insurance matters. Police charged Manz-Lavalla with driving with a suspended vehicle registration.
Police released her on a written promise to appear in court on May 15.
Truck Vs SUV
About 5 pm May 2, motorist Kenneth Lizak, 46, of Monroe, who was driving a 1997 Ford Explorer eastward on Route 34 near Pole Bridge Road, stopped and was waiting in a line of traffic, when the Ford was hit from behind by eastbound motorist Dave Burdick, 53, of Oxford, who was driving a 1998 International truck, police report.
Lizak reported back pain, but refused medical attention, police said. Police issued Burdick an infraction ticket for following too closely.  Â
Honda Damaged
Police learned about 10 pm April 30, that a Newington residentâs 2000 Honda Civic coupe, which had been parked unoccupied at Newtown High School, had been damaged by some other unknown vehicle. The Honda has damage to its rear.
Police are investigating and ask anyone who knows who damaged the Honda to contact them at 426-5841 or at 270-8888.
Flagpole Crash
About 5 pm April 30, motorist Francis Sullivan, 59, of Monroe, who was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, stopped at a stop sign on Church Hill Road and then began to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, police said.
But in making that turn, the left side of the truck collided with the 100-foot-tall flagpole that is located in the center of that intersection, police said. Sullivan was not injured. He received an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.
