Fear Mongering
Fear Mongering
To the Editor:
I am saddened to see my favorite newspaper allowing access to right wing fear mongers such as Ms Hibbard and Mr Narel.
With her refusal to address our President, as President Obama is disrespectful enough [Letter Hive, 4/27/12, âWhy Obama Should Be âDethronedââ], but calling him a radical and accusing him of attempting to dismantle our country, Ms Hibbard is absolutely reactionary. With our health care costs spiraling out of control and insurance companies racking in record profits while forcing providers to accept less with each budget cycle something has to be done to control their excesses. It may not be perfect but it is an attempt to slow the cost and improve the care we receive. I for one believe our right to health care is as important as our right to vote or carry arms or speak freely; as it stands now, only those who can pay or have an employer who is willing to do so have access to health care period. Not very American from my vantage point.
As for Mr Narel, [Letter Hive, 4/27/12, âFanning The Flames Of Racial Divisionâ] comparing the senseless stalking and shooting of an unarmed boy to the rape and murder of an elderly woman and then attempting to accuse the public of a double standard is unacceptable to any reasonable mind. In the Martin shooting, the shooter was released without charge and remained at large until public outcry forced the attorney general to reconsider an obvious mistake. In the case of Woodfork, he was arrested and charged with his crime when identified. He will face a jury and he and his victims will get their day in court. Such was nearly denied Trayvon Martin. To draw any comparison is in it self an act of racism.
Shame on both of you,
Lou Reda
