Love & Knishes, Alzheimer’s Support Offered

SOUTHBURY — From opera to Broadway to jazz to easy listening, four diverse musical programs will delight guests at the Love & Knishes Lunch program during May. Adults from many neighboring towns will enjoy good cheer, live music and delicious food catered by Chef Mo Jalil of Cheshire’s award-winning Jordan Caterers.

Lunch is served at noon in the Jewish Federation’s social hall at 444 Main Street North.

On May 9, “Let Your Light Shine” features vocalists Claudia and Bob Hughes and accompanist Mark Templeton of Bethlehem, a well-known pianist and arranger.

They will perform an eclectic mix from their repertoire, with duets in genres including Broadway, classical, opera and pop.

May 16 brings Bob Lupi’s Springtime Show, with the Oxford resident showing off his keyboard and vocal skills, including favorites from Elvis, Sinatra, Paul Anka, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, James Taylor and more.

Singer/guitarist John Voket appears on May 23 in “Tripping Through the Songbook.” His set includes numbers from the Great American Songbook and artists from Sinatra and Martin to Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong.

He will also flavor his set with timeless classics from more contemporary contributors like Van Morrison, Marc Cohn, Ronnie Milsap and Roy Orbison.

“Gershwin and All That Jazz” is the theme on May 30 when pianist Roger Young makes the room sizzle with tunes by Gershwin, Cole Porter, Scott Joplin, some short classical pieces and your special requests.

Lunch reservations should be made by noon Monday for that week’s program. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50 for adults age 60 and better.

To RSVP, call 203- 267-3177.

In other Federation news, a monthly support group for friends and family of people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias takes place on Thursday, May 10, at 10:30 am at the Federation.

There is no charge for this open and on-going group, whose purpose is to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. Heather Hitchcock, Northwestern Regional Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, facilitates the group.

For more information, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service Director, at 203-267-3177.
