To the Editor:

It was great to read that NHS wrestling is “the most successful team in the history of Newtown High School” in last week’s Bee. We personally are very grateful both of our sons, Nicholas and Luca, were able to participate in this great sport, alongside many talented wrestlers.

We would personally like to thank NHS and the Board of Education for continuing to provide funds to this and all sport programs; they also share in the success of this historic team. These are boys are an incredibly dedicated group of athletes, however I firmly believe their success also depends on the support of their parents, community and educators.

This year was an emotional end to a 10-year ride with this sport for us, and it was highlighted by our son finishing his high school career with the coach he began with 10 years ago. Coach Bray has devoted years bringing this sport to Newtown by starting the youth team and moving up to the high school head coach position two years ago. I believe he shared in every medal and award these boys earned.

Thank you and I will now be a spectator and fan in years to come!
