Deer vs Motorcycle

Police said motorcyclist Glenn Callahan, 48, of Fairfield was riding a 2001 Suzuki GSF-1200/S eastward on Sugar Street, just west of its eastern intersection with Sugar Lane, at about 8:19 pm on May 2, when a deer ran out onto the road from the right side of the street.

The deer struck the Suzuki, knocking the motorcycle over onto its left side and knocking Callahan off the vehicle, police said. Callahan and the motorcycle slid across the roadway and both came to rest off the left side of the street, police said.

Police said Callahan was transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Dodgingtown volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. Police euthanized the injured deer.

Toddy Hill Crash

Police report that motorist Roger Saravia, 25, of Bridgeport, was driving a 2004 Subaru Impreza northward on Toddy Hill Road at about 5:51 am on May 2, and was approaching its northern intersection with Clearview Drive, when Saravia passed a northbound noncontact vehicle and then attempted to re-enter the northbound lane, but swerved across the southbound lane, after which the Subaru went off the left side of the street and struck a stone wall and some trees.

Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the scene and helped to clear a large displaced boulder from the roadway. Police closed the street to traffic for about 35 minutes.

Saravia received a wrist injury and was transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said midday on May 3 that Saravia was a patient in good condition in the hospital.

Saravia received a misdemeanor summons for reckless driving, passing in a no-passing zone, and failure to have automotive insurance, police said. Saravia is scheduled for a May 16 court appearance.

Nissan vs GMC

At 7:31 am on April 29, motorist Xavier Zapata-Pinos, 45, of Seymour, who was driving a 2006 GMC Envoy SUV westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by motorist Danielle Bobbie, 20, of Winsted, who was driving a 2017 Nissan Sentra, state police said.

Zapata-Pinos reported a back injury, but refused medical attention, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

DUI Arrest

After receiving a report about an erratic driver early on the morning of April 29, police said they searched for that motorist and then found him at a property on South Main Street, near the Monroe border.

After investigating, police arrested Alaido Araujo-Dahora, 48, of Newtown, at 3:12 am on a charge of driving under the influence. Following arrest processing, police released him for a May 16 court appearance.

Smartphone Found

Police report that on the morning of Saturday, April 29, a white Samsung-brand Galaxy S-6 smartphone, enclosed in a yellow protective case, was found on Fieldstone Drive and was then turned over to police for safekeeping. Fieldstone Drive is a side street off Mt Nebo Road.

Two Children

Police report they responded at about 4:53 pm on April 27 to a health-and-welfare complaint concerning a residence on Maplewood Trail in Sandy Hook. The complainant reported that there were two unsupervised children at the property, police said.

Police said that after arriving, they found Kathryn Roth, 23, sleeping in an upstairs bedroom, while her two children, ages 2 and 3, were found unsupervised in the backyard.

After investigating, police said they charged Roth with two counts of risk of injury to a child. After processing, police said they released Roth on $2,000 bail for a May 16 appearance in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Rear-Ender

State police said motorist Denelle Saunders, 26, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima on westbound Interstate 84 at about 8:06 am on April 26, stopped for traffic conditions, and was then struck from behind by motorist Jacqueline Gadue, 33, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2010 Jeep Wrangler SUV.

There were no injuries. State police said they verbally warned Gadue for following too closely.

Wet Conditions

At about 3:52 pm on April 25 during rainy conditions, motorist Reza Mobasseri, 60, of Southington, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla sedan, was negotiating a curve at the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, when the auto went out of control on the wet pavement and struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder, state police said.

Mobasseri was not injured. State police issued Mobasseri an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Honda vs Acura

State police report that during heavy traffic conditions at about 7:28 am on April 25, motorist Louise Bisch, 53, of Southbury, who was driving a 2005 Honda CR-V SUV westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, struck the rear end of a 2010 Acura TSX sedan driven by Tianna Roscoe, 35, of Waterbury.

Roscoe reported dizziness and was transported to Danbury Hospital, state police said. Bisch received a written warning for following too closely, according to state police.

Highway DUI

State police report they observed an Acura MDX SUV driving erratically on eastbound Interstate 84, between Exits 9 and 10, at about 10:17 pm on April 24.

State police said they turned on their emergency lights and siren in seeking to stop the Acura, but it continued traveling at highway speeds for about three-quarters of a mile. The Acura then stopped just west of the Exit 10 off-ramp, state police said.

After investigating, state police charged motorist Gabriel Bloomfield, 44, of Waterbury with driving under the influence, failure to obey a police signal to stop, improper passing, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

State police released Bloomfield on $1,000 bail for a May 9 court appearance. State police also released Bloomfield to the state Department of Correction for a parole violation. On May 2, Bloomfield was being held at New Haven Correctional Center on the parole violation.

Off-Ramp Crash 

At about 10 pm on April 22, motorist Eve Stabinsky-Ackert, 49, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2016 Honda CR-V SUV, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of Interstate 84's Exit 11 off-ramp, state police said.

Motorist Christina Dispensa, 39, of Monroe, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Versa, then struck the rear end of the Honda, state police said. There were no injuries. Dispensa received an infraction for following too closely, state police report.

Police said motorist Sharyn Fossum, 71, of Walnut Tree Village, who was driving a 2006 Volkswagen Passat sedan about 2:45 pm on April 28, inadvertently pressed the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal and drove through the closed overhead garage door for her garage there. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Fossum to Danbury Hospital, where she was treated and released, officials said, Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters responded to the incident.
