To Host Jazz Workshop

FAIRFIELD — Young instrumentalists are invited to hone their skills at the 2006 Summer Jazz workshop sponsored by University College at Fairfield University.

Led by Brian Torff, a bassist and composer who is also the music program director at Fairfield, and trombonist and bandleader John Fumasoli, the workshop will run from Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 14. A final concert will take place July 14.

The workshop will offer an intensive jazz experience for students in middle school, high school and college. Classes will  combine instruction, improvisation and theory with summer recreational activities.

Students will perform in jazz ensembles and will spend time studying rhythm, world music history, jazz arranging and composing.

Jazz Workshop participants must have at least two years of experience on their instrument and have a basic music-reading ability.

Camp counselors will provide full supervision.

Tuition is $400 before May 15 ($450 after).
