Princeton Professor & Author Will Be Guest

At 14th Annual East Hill Woods Luncheon

SOUTHBURY — East Hill Woods residents will hold their 14th annual Book and Author Luncheon at noon on Wednesday, May 17.

This year’s guest author is Guy MacLean Rogers. He will discuss his latest release, Alexander: The Ambiguity of Greatness.

In this new biography, Mr Rogers sifts through thousands of years of history and myth to uncover the truth about the complex, ambiguous genius Alexander the Great.

Dr Rogers holds a PhD in classics from Princeton University. He has been the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, including ones from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Philosophical Society, and All Souls College Oxford.

His first book, The Sacred Identity of Ephesos:  Foundation Myths of a Roman City, won the Routledge Ancient History Prize.  Chairman of the Department of History at Wellesley College from 1997-2001, he is a professor of classics and history there. He grew up in Connecticut and currently resides in Roxbury.

Individuals interested in attending the Book and Author Luncheon must make a reservation no later than May 9 by sending a check in the amount of $25 per person to Dr Richard Ern, Treasurer, 223 Applewood, Southbury CT 06488. Include the names of anyone you may wish to be seated with.

Checks should be made payable to East Hill Woods Library Fund. Fifteen dollars of each ticket is a tax-deductible donation.

Proceeds from the luncheon will be used to enhance the collections of the East Hill Woods Library.
