Near the start of its meeting on Tuesday, April 21, the Board of Education held a Celebration of Excellence to honor the Newtown High School wrestling team.

NHS Athletic Director Gregg Simon introduced the wrestling team to the board, and said, “I’ve been involved with athletics at the high school for the last 25 years, so I think I can say with certainty that this is the most successful team in the history of Newtown High School.”

Mr Simon outlined the team’s recent accomplishments, which included winning the South-West Conference, Class LL championships, and the State Open championships, finishing second at the New England championships, and being named the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Team of the Year.

Each member of the team introduced himself to the board members, before board members and administration present offered the group a round of applause.
