Visions Of The Quinnipiac River At Newtown Municipal Art Gallery
The work of artist Linda Dohanos is being presented at The Newtown Municipal Art Gallery through May.
The gallery, managed by Newtown Cultural Arts Commission, is open during regular business hours and late Monday through Thursday evenings.
“We live right across from the Quinnipiac bird sanctuary,” Dohanos noted. “And it has informed my work. The pictures are of birds and animals I have seen there. And we have been watching the return of the ospreys.”
According to Dohanos the river had been polluted beginning with the Industrial Revolution. But it has been cleaned up and now it is the home of oysters that are harvested and served at a restaurant near the river.
The river is now managed by Yale University and the Audubon Society.
The daughter of famed Saturday Evening Post cover artist Steven Dohanos and Florence Marie Dohanos, who was also an avid painter, Linda Dohanos has been a professional artist for over 30 years. She specializes in ceramics, oil painting and mixed media. Her work has been featured in galleries across the country and she has won several awards for her pieces.
She has also been practicing and teaching Tai chi, Reiki, chi gong and meditation for most of that time. All of it, she says, is an extension of her art.
