Free Screening For Strokes

NEW MILFORD — New Milford Hospital, in conjunction with the American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, invites community members to participate in an upcoming StrokerAlert! event on Tuesday, May 17, from 10 am to 1 pm, in the main lobby of the hospital. No appointment is necessary.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for 163,538 deaths in 2001. About 700,000 Americans each year suffer a new or recurrent stroke. That means every 45 seconds, on average, someone in the United States has a stroke; and about every three minutes someone dies of a stroke. That’s about one of every 15 deaths. It’s the third leading cause of death behind diseases of the heart and cancer. Women account for more than six in ten stroke fatalities.

Knowing your risk factors and making lifestyle changes can drastically reduce the risk for stroke. That’s why New Milford Hospital offers this free screening, in an effort to educate individuals about their personal scores and what actions should be followed.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information call the Marketing & Public Relations Department of the hospital at 860-350-7215.
