May Programs At Danbury Hospital

DANBURY — Exploring the options available to provide care and support for a loved one will be the focus of discussions on Tuesday, May 10, at a Medical Town Meeting entitled “When A Loved One Needs Care.”

 Health care experts from the Danbury Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) will serve as program presenters, including VNA executive director MaryAnn Faraguna, RN, MPH, as a featured speaker. The program focuses on making health care decisions, care options and evaluating their appropriateness, understanding the financial maze, and available community resources.

The May 10 Medical Town Meeting takes place from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Danbury Hospital auditorium, 24 Hospital Avenue. Park free in the Blue Visitor’s parking lot located on Hospital Avenue.

Injury and violence are serious threats to the health and well being of Americans age 65 and older. Like many diseases, many injuries are preventable. Find out how you can help prevent numerous accidental injuries in older adults on Tuesday, May 17, when experts affiliated with the Danbury Hospital trauma program address “Injury Prevention in the Elderly.”

 The program takes place in the Danbury Hospital auditorium from 7 to 8:30 pm. Danbury Hospital is a Level II Trauma Center that provides highly advanced emergency care for the area communities. The hospital’s Emergency Department experienced more than 65,000 visits in 2004, nearly 1,000 of which required response from the trauma program.

Featured speakers will be Michael Craig, MD, Danbury Hospital Department of Surgery, chief, Section of Orthopedics, practicing physician, Danbury Orthopedic Associates, PC.; MaryAnn Faraguna, RN, MPH, executive director, Danbury Visiting Nurse Association; James T. McNamara, clinical program coordinator, Danbury Hospital Main Street Physical Rehabilitation Center; and Lisa Dransfield, physical therapist, Associated Neurologists of Danbury, PC.           

Ample time will be provided for audience questions. Danbury Hospital Medical Town Meetings are free and open to the public. No RSVP is required. A prize drawing, program-focused educational materials, and light refreshments are provided.
