Food For The Pantries

To the Editor:

On Saturday, April 16, the Newtown Woman’s Club GFWC, Inc, held their 5th Annual Federation For Food collection. The theme for this year was to “Stuff A Bus,” and we would like to thank the shoppers who helped.

Through everyone’s generosity we were able to collect enough groceries to put on the bus and then “stuff” 6½ grocery carts, along with $233 in cash. Beneficiaries again this year were Salvation Army Food Cupboard at Newtown Social Services and FAITH Food Pantry.

We want to thank Phil Carroll for loaning us his sparkling clean Bus #13, Stop & Shop for allowing us to park the bus and ourselves there, The Bee for their publicity, representatives from both pantries who came to collect the food at the end of the day, and all of the generous shoppers for making this food collection another success. I would like to personally thank 18 club members who braved the miserable weather that day, with cold temperatures and blustery winds, and a few rain drops as we were closing up... it was not an easy day, but they stuck it out with me.
