U8

Net Rippers 2, Blue Crushers 1: The Net Rippers fought their way to a 2-1 win over the very evenly matched Blue Crushers. Faith O’Hara found the back of the net twice for the Net Rippers. Also with multiple shots on goal were speedy Brigitte Marino and Gwen Drew. Julia Kanaan was a force in goal. Katherine Dirga scored for the Blue Crushers late in the game. Lindsey Booth played well pushing the ball up on offense. Morgan Melillo was great in goal and Madeline Patrick was determined on defense.

Lightning 4, Team Five 4: The teams completed a great game and concluded with a knotted score of 4-4. For the Lightning, Carlie Smith contributed all four goals in the cause, while Cameron Powers, Sophia Romano and Eileen McCleary played an overall excellent game on offense. On the defensive side of the pitch, Hannah Sepp contributed an overall great effort, keeping the ball to the outside of the net as goal keeper.

Lightning Strikes 2, Lightning 1: In a great competition, the Lightning Strikes buzzed the Lightning by a tight score of 2-1. It was a very competitive contest that saw both teams passing the ball very well throughout the game. Becca Filiato led The Lightning Strikes on offense scoring the team’s two goals. Riley Burns played a strong overall game on both sides of the ball and in goal. Taegan Smith played strong defense and Megan Riccardi moved the ball well on offense. It was a very competitive game that saw the girls on both teams pass the ball well. For the Lightning, Elizabeth Teixeria scored the lone net, supported with outstanding overall offensive play on the parts of Nicole Fisher and Cameron Powers. The offensive unit did an excellent job in making deliberate passes to move the ball up and down the pitch. Katie Viselli played excellent goal, deflecting multiple attacks on goal, while Ellie Moxham, Madison Del Pozo and Eileen McCleary all played outstanding defense for the Lightning.

U10

Golden Eagles 6, Smurfs 4: The Smurfs opened up the scoring quick, but the Eagles rebounded with a pair of goals to take the lead, but it was not long until the Smurfs were able to tie back at 2-2. The Eagles answered again and closed out the half up 3-2. The second half started strong for the Eagles as a pair of goals put them up 5-2. The Smurfs were not done though and were able to score twice more and push the Eagle defense hard. With only 5 minutes left, the Eagles were able to net an insurance goal and survive a blue wave of offense to keep the victory. The Golden Eagles saw a hat trick from Emma Curtis (6), and Simone Paradis (1), Chloe Freedman (1) and Zoe Freedman (1) all saw their first goals of the season. Samantha Bicho and Sydney Howard anchored a defense and came up big when the game was on the line as the Golden Eagles are 2-0 on the young season. Smurfs forwards Angela and Veronica Vodola scored two goals each, and Claire DuBois had two assists. Lin Vitarbo played solid defense and Katelyn Henchcliffe helped control the midfield as the Smurfs evened their record at 1-1.

Team Funky Socks 3, Dynamite 2: Bella Mandfredi scored two goals for career high. Lizzy Hodge and Mckenna Cuomo each added a goal with powerful drives to goal. Julie Raigosa was unstoppable in goal. Merije De Wit scored both goals for the Dynamite. Sage Karp registered an assist. Both Kristina Goeree and Briana Castellano played solid games.

Twisters 3, American Eagles 1: For the Twisters, Jackie Matthews chipped in with 2 goals, one with a beautiful assist from Lindsey Gallagher. Vanessa Tucker contributed another hard-earned goal. Colby Troy was awesome in goal, while Ally Toth was amazing on defense. Heidi Poarch’s lightening fast speed helped the game all around. For the American Eagles, the offensive effort was led by Grace Sholtes, who scored the lone net for the Eagles, with nice assist help from Greta Capeci on a stellar breakaway play during first half action. Izzy Kaiser and Olivia Elkins also moved the ball well for the offensive unit throughout the contest. On the defensive side of action, Kathy Hyeon played strong goal, while Allie Reczek and Sarah Simenson anchored the Eagles’ defensive unit, deflecting multiple attacks on net by a strong Twisters offense.

Twisters 2, Dynamite 0: The season opened with Twisters Elizabeth Sally and Lindsey Gallagher each tallying their first goal of their careers; Linda Bomova played well on offense and Janyce Toth was stellar on defense. For the Dynamite, Madeline Ceci, Jenna Gonski and Alexis Fortugno played well.

 

U11

Darien 4, Panthers 1: In their second outing of the season, the relentless Charli Condon put the Panthers on the score board with an assist by Greta Staubly. Both Mary Hufziger and Juliette Grover displayed fine footwork leading to several attempts at goal. Catherine Shaw joined them with a shot at goal late in the first half. Bella Jimenez never let up the pressure on Darien, displaying her strength at midfield. Both Kira Kelly and Maria Ringes defended the goal with strong saves. Diana Kirkman and Audrey Sedensky played well on defense with their wall-like resistance and awesome footwork.

U14

Chaos 1, Twisters 0: The lone goal was scored by Allie Indelicato with an assist by Sierra Mather. Anna Baxter and Kayla DiSibio anchored an effective defensive line that kept the Twisters at bay. Ashley Marks and Chrissy Moore combined for the shutout in goal. For the Twisters, Caitlin Filiato and Tonya Tucker demonstrated persistent offense with solid defense play by Anna Pinckney and Anita Luxkaranayagam. Rachael DiCristina and Lexi Tucker were strong in their roles as goaltenders.

U6

Golden Eagles 2, Team Eleven 0: An outstanding defensive effort was led by Jonathan Liberante, Colin Adis and Sachin Mansukhani. On offense, Hunter Kirkman, Devin Johnson and Rohan Mansukhani led the charge, with excellent shots on goal by Drew Poseno. Hunter Kirkman scored the first goal in the second quarter on an assist by Jonathan Liberante and the second goal in the third quarter on a returned goal kick. The offensive and defensive efforts were aided by several tough saves in the goal by Sam Staubly and Devin Johnson.

U8

Team One 0, The Madmen: The first game of the spring season for both Team One and The Madmen was a well-balanced and exciting match up. Roni Bajraliu, Chris Shaker and Johnathan Taylor led the Madmen’s offensive attack with great passing and multiple shots on goal in this hard fought contest. On the defensive side, Steven Leuci, Ethan Parsons and Riley Ward hustled and defended the entire game to keep their opponent from scoring. Nick Preszler and Ryan Poupon led Team 1 on offense with great charges up the field. Bryce Benson and Brandon Manka controlled the flow of the game from their mid-field positions and made it difficult for the opponent to get near their goal. John Sullivan and CJ Cuomo had multiple saves in goal.

The Warriors 1, Team Five 1: After a scoreless first half with stubborn defense on both sides Steven Vournazos delivered a scoring strike for the Warriors in the third quarter. Team 5 who played a great all-around game battled back and Brayden Deraney scored the tying goal with just minutes left in the fourth quarter. Solid defensive effort was displayed by Devin O’Connell for the Warriors, and Justin DeThomas had a great all around game for Team Five.

U10

Team Six 1, Newtown United 1: Michael Arther scored the lone goal for Team Six with a great overall team effort by the rest of the players. They outhustled their opponents, despite playing without any subs. The Newtown United played down a goal for most of the game, until Justin Jarvis scored the equalizer on a free kick from over 20 yards out, with less than a minute left in the game. Alex Delp and Connor Marlin provided solid defense at the keeper position, in a game marked with unselfish passing and good sportsmanship from both clubs.

U11

Newtown Rovers 6, Fairfield Blue 5: The Rovers came from behind for the win, after being down 3-1 upon completion of the first half. Thomas Skrelja was unstoppable scoring a hat trick against the Blues with three goals. Michael Greenspan had a fantastic game scoring a goal as well and was aggressive in the striker position. Henry Petrillo did not disappoint his team as captain, scoring a goal. Danny Arneth also showed great composure on the ball, scoring a goal as well. Reed Hammond had a great outing as goalie, shutting down the Blues late in the game. Jack Armstrong was aggressive playing full back and stopped the Fairfield Blues in their tracks. Wally Skrelja also showed no mercy in the full back position and consistently stopped the Blues attack.

Travel Soccer State Cup

Newtown 5, Simsbury 1: The State Cup tournament kicked off with overwhelming confidence for the Newtown Net Rippers. Middies Josh and Nick Harper and Evan Eggleston continuously fed the ball for endless shots on goal by Grant Larson and Brendan O’Hara, with Matt Gerbo netting three: including a gorgeous header on assist from Nick Harper, and Josh Harper nailing two of his own. Goalie CJ Trivers had tremendous saves, and the remarkable moves of Silas Decker, Hunter Procaccini and James Barden sealed the deal.

Newtown 3, Easton 1: The Net Rippers showed up ready to play, and Easton never had a chance with CJ Trivers in the goal and Mark Hall and Evan Eggleston working the pitch. Double Duo Josh Harper (2) and Nick Harper (1) grabbed goals, with Mighty Matt Gerbo and Grant Larson strong up front. Net Rippers James Barden, Silas Decker and Aiden Ford all handled the ball with depth and skill, overpowering a surprised Easton.

U13

Newtown Strikers 0, Stamford Hurricanes White 5: Play was more even than the final score suggests with strong performances coming from Tyler Dullinger and Cole Rogalin. The Strikers open state cup play next weekend versus Hebron AHM United.

U14

A-Team 6, The Daze 1: The A-Team improved their record to 3-0 with a 6-1 win over The Daze. The A-Team continues to be led by their outstanding defense goalie play of Patrick Olah and Quinlan Hart. Noah Orakwue and Charles Soto continue to shine on the back line. The A-Team offense was led the by two goals from Patrick Olah and Sawyer Conrad and one goal from Casper Dewit and Noah Orakwue. Kieran Lynch played an outstanding mid-field, setting up many scoring opportunities. The Daze were led by the scoring of Connor Flint. Barret DeYound played solid goalie. Joey Fiorella played a great wing and James Barry shined on defense.
