Police Explorers Open House Slated

Police have scheduled an open house for youths from ages 14 through 18 interested in becoming members of the Newtown Police Explorers post.

The session is intended for candidates interested in joining the explorers post, parents, and friends. The  post is in its formative stages.

“It is the mission of the Newtown Police Explorer program to enable young men and women to become responsible individuals by teaching [them] positive character traits, career development, leadership, and life skills, so they can make ethical choices and achieve their full potential,” according to police.

The national program, which is known as Law Enforcement Exploring, is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.

The gathering is scheduled to start at 7 pm on Wednesday, May 11. Those attending should enter Town Hall South at 3 Main Street through its lower-level rear entrance.

People with questions on the session should contact police Officer Felicia Figol at 203-426-5841.
