Saturday, May 8 – The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard will sponsor its annual Judged Pleasure Ride on Saturday, May 8, 9 am to 12 noon, at its headquarters on Wildlife Drive (Fairfield Hills Campus). The fee is $45 per rider, payable the day of the event and includes lunch. Riders will be timed on the trail ride and awarded points for each obstacle successfully completed. Proof of current Coggins and Rabies vaccinations must be shown. The event is open to all horse owners. Sunday, May 16 – The Woodbury Chase Country Trail Ride and Luncheon will be held Sunday, May 16, at White Memorial, a wildlife sanctuary in Litchfield. The ride starts at 10 am with the luncheon to follow at 1 pm. Cost is $45 for adults and $35 for juniors (or $20 for adults and $15 for juniors for luncheon only). Monday, May 31 – The Bedford Riding Lanes will hold its Memorial Day Country Pace and Luncheon on Monday, May 31, at the John Jay Homestead Historic Site on Route 22 in Katonah, New York. Saturday, May 22 – The Newtown Bridle Lands Association will hold its Country Dance and Supper at Edmond Town Hall on Saturday, May 22. Music will be by Wild Notes, with Bill Fischer calling.  Featuring Squares, Contras and Couples Dances (no experience is necessary because all dances will be taught).  Supper is at 6 pm, with dancing from 8 to 10:30 pm. Admission is $20 per person in advance, and $25 at the door.  Proceeds will benefit the NBLA equine scholarship fund that helps college students majoring in veterinary medicine, equine studies, or environmental science. Sunday, May 16 – Canine Advocates of Newtown will hold its 4th Annual Tag Sale on Sunday, May 16, from 9 am to 4 pm in the parking lot at the medical offices of Dr Donald Evans, 115 Mt. Pleasant Road. (across from Hot Shots Restaurant). All proceeds will help pay for rabies and distemper shots and spaying/neutering for the dogs at the Newtown Dog Pound. Good quality donations for the sale are welcome and can be dropped off at the same address on Saturday, May 1, between 3 and 5:30 pm; Wednesday, May 5, between 5 and 7:30 pm; and Saturday, May 15, between 3 and 5:30 pm (no clothing or large furniture, please). In addition to the kitchen items, jewelry, plants, pots, vases, lamps, small appliances, small furniture, toys, games, books, speakers, exercise equipment, and electronics, there will be new itsems such as dog and cat jewelry, crafts, and homemade dog biscuits. Saturday, June 5 – The Greenwich Kennel Club’s 72nd AKC All-Breed Dog Show and Obedience Trial will be held Saturday, June 5, at Purchase College, SUNY, in Purchase, New York.
