Visiting Angels and St Rose Parish have decided to bring Dr Susan Varano back to Newtown to continue a discussion on what to expect with a normal aging process.

When the group brought Dr Varano to town for a program in March, more than 100 people attended.

When she returns for another free presentation on Tuesday, May 12, Dr Varano will again educate seniors about the physical and cognitive aspects of aging and the signs of early dementia. In “The Normal Biology of Aging versus Dementia,” Dr Varano will share how to identify the differences and manage realistic expectations of the aging process.

Dr Varano is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Yale University, a geriatric physician, and the former director of Yale’s Elder Horizons Program. She is a celebrated, dynamic speaker with a great sense of humor, making a difficult topic an open and engaging one.

“We believe part of our role as a member of the community is to help build awareness of the ag-ing process and the role of elder care in that process”, says Tracy Brady, community relations director at Visiting Angels of Brookfield. “Bringing a notable speaker like Dr Varano to help us do that is a highlight of our community involvement.”

The lecture and discussion begin at 6:30 pm. It will take place in the Monsignor Conroy Room at St Rose School, 42 Church Hill Road.

Admission is free, but seating is limited so registration is requested; call Sister Mary Ellen Genova at 203-426-2572.
