To The Editor:

My close friends say that I am clearly a feminist because I promote women. At 64 year of age, I have endured a great deal of "ism" s in the field of law. From racism to sexism and classism. Therefore, I know nothing but advocacy. However, if pushing a woman forward compromises my integrity because it pulls another downward, I will not do it.

That is why I started out on the campaign committee for Michelle Ku and quickly realized the homophobic, Latino stereotyping, youth scapegoating strategies were not the way to promote the cause of women. I left quietly. I say that repeatedly. However, the debate sponsored by the College Democrats fell into one of the Ku strategies to ignore the debate, let Michelle Ku and DTC handle it, and it would go away. When it did not go away and Brandon Moore appeared alone, the College Democrats were called underhanded, using an empty chair tactic. That was not the truth and so I had T Mobile assist me in recovering the committee texts for the previous 29 days, as it is all they could do, and I had to speak up. After every text, messages to delete texts followed, and that was the clue that Ku is for U, is not for all.

I voiced my opinion against the homophobic tactic to lure Brandon Moore into acting like a "Diva," because it was just that ... homophobic stereotyping. Thinking an Apache Helicopter commander can be lured into stereotypical behavior, is a delusion of grandeur. I voiced my opinion that "Ku es para tu" was alienating even when the committee thought Brazilians are moving into Newtown. Who is to say we as Latinos need Spanish campaign t shirts to know how to vote? I speak three languages fluently. I live in Newtown and am Puerto Rican. Not all Latinos are the same.

Most importantly, when you put forth lies and when asked why you did not look into the truth about things you put forth, the answer should not be the truth was not confirmable. When a committee member posts a homophobic comment on facebook and Michelle Ku says it had good intentions, It says it all. Think about that as you endorse or support her.
