Gypsy Jazz At Richter House, May 24
Gypsy Jazz At Richter House, May 24
DANBURY â Ameranouche, a nationally touring acoustic gypsy jazz trio that draws from the innovative music of guitar legend Django Reinhardt, will make its first Danbury appearance at Richter House, 100 Aunt Hack Road, Danbury, on Sunday, May 24, at 3 pm.
Formed in 2004 and based in southern New Hampshire, the groupâs diverse genre includes everything from light-hearted French waltzes and bright flamenco strummings to haunting Russian folk melodies and staunch German style rhythm guitar work.
The musicians of Ameranaouche, whose name is a synthesis of American and Manouche (gypsy), are lead guitarist Richard Sheppard, rhythm guitarist Ryan Flaherty, and upright bassist Xar Adelberg. The group has twice earned a Best of New Hampshire award, and in 2007 had three songs used on a National Lampoon soundtrack.
Ameranouche has played in Djangofest Northwest and toured throughout the Midwest, Southwest and New England. Last year the trio made history as the first ever gypsy jazz group to play at Newport Jazz Festival, where they received a standing ovation. Their second album will be released next month.
The Richter House performance is being presented by the Stanley L. Richter Association for the Arts, with partial funding from Danbury Cultural Commission. Admission is by freewill donation.
Refreshments will be served after the performance.
Artwork and photography by Bethel artist Sheila Loughheed will be on display at Richter House the afternoon of the concert.
