UPDATE (May 14): Flagpole Radio Cafe Co-Producer Martin Blanco has announced that Christine Lavin will preside over a knitting circle at 6 pm May 18, before the show.  “Be sure to bring  your needles. As had been , The Flagpole Radio Café will return to Edmond Town Hall Theater on Saturday, May 18, at 7 pm. This will mark the first show in nearly a year for the café.announced last week

On Wednesday, May 8, organizers announced that Christine Lavin will return to the ETH Theatre stage to be the guest artist for this month’s show.

For those unacquainted with this project The Flagpole Radio Café, is an engaging show created by Jim Allyn, Martin Blanco and Barbara Gaines in conjunction with Newtown Cultural Arts Commission. It features music by Jim Allyn and The Flagpole Radio Café Orchestra, a dynamic ensemble created for the show, and radio style comedy sketches by the Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre.

Each show features a musical guest artist such as Livingston Taylor, Tom Chapin, Peter Yarrow, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, Jonathon Edwards, Roger Ball of The Average White Band, Deborah Henson-Conant, and Yale’s internationally acclaimed male choir The Whiffenpoofs.

“We hope to bring a bit of joy to the town, as we have done for four years, through the shared experience of live performance,” said Flagpole Radio Café Co-Producer Barbara Gaines. “We are especially glad to welcome back Christine Lavin as we can think of no performer better suited to the task.”

Ms Lavin is a multi-award winning singer-songwriter whose one-of-a-kind concerts have become a fixture in folk-pop culture. She has produced twenty solo and nine compilation albums. She is the producer of Just One Angel, a holiday album featuring original songs of 22 fellow singer-songwriters including Jeff Daniels, Janis Ian and Uncle Bonsai.

Her numerous awards include The NYC Nightlife Award, The ASCAP Foundation Award, two New York Music Awards, seven ASCAP Composer Awards, The World Folk Music Association’s Kate Wolf Memorial Award and a Backstage Bistro Award for New York City Singer-Songwriter of the Year.

She was included as one of the Top 100 Most Influential Artists by Performing Songwriter magazine. She was a founding member of the Four Bitchin’ Babes recording and performing collective, and toured as a Babe from 1990 until 1997.

Ms Lavin created and hosted XM Satellite Radio’s Slipped Discs, a channel which featured the albums of fellow artists and aspiring musicians “slipped” to her backstage at her concerts.

She is also a published author. Her autobiography Cold Pizza for Breakfast: A Mem-wha?? garnered strong critical acclaim upon publication by Tell Me Press as it traced her curious, circuitous and often hilarious route to becoming an internationally recognized singer-songwriter. In November 2011, ASCAP awarded Cold Pizza its 43rd annual Deems Taylor Award for excellence in portraying a life and career in the music industry. She is also the author of two children’s books. The Amoeba Hop, published by Puddle Jump Press with illustration by Betsy Franco Feeney, was recognized with an Outstanding Book Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Ms Lavin partnered again with Franco Feeney and Puddle Jump Press for Hole In The Bottom of the Sea which was released in spring 2012. Inspired by the enormity of the BP oil spill, the book offers an imaginative point of entry for the young in understanding the ecosystem, and includes a CD featuring Ms Lavin and fifty singers from all across the US and Israel performing the book’s title song. The book includes four pages of real science, and debuted at the annual conference of the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association in Baton Rouge.

Ms Lavin’s published contributions can also be found in Memories of John Lennon, edited by Yoko Ono; Knit Lit, Too (Random House), an account of how knitting figures into her life on the road; and Remember Me When I Am Gone (Adler Press), in which she and other notables such as Larry King, Stephen King, and Kristin Chenoweth pen their own obituaries.
