To the Editor

Thank you to all who participated in the Walk to Preserve 6 Commerce Road, on Saturday, May 3rd, making it a huge success. The Walk was sponsored by the Town Conservation Commission in association with Candlewood Valley Trout Unlimited (CVTU) and the Newtown Bike and Trails Committee. Highlights of the event were a talk given by CVTU president Neil Baldino about the importance of Deep Brook and our Watershed followed by a hike lead by Bike and Trails chairman, Charles Zukowski. Special thanks to Laura King of the C.V. Hubbard Sanctuary for her help and support.

Other organizations represented included Protect Our Pollinators, Pootatuck Watershed Association, Newtown Conservation Coalition, Newtown Hikers, and Newtown Bridal Lanes Association. Local dignitaries in attendance were Selectman, Michelle Embree Ku and Senator Tony Hwang.

Much has been reported about Senate Bill 1562, currently in the General Assembly Joint Committee on Government Oversight, that would change the authorized use of 6 Commerce to open space and recreational purposes. One has only to experience this gorgeous property with scenic overlooks to see why this is so important. Thanks to all who attended the Walk and for your support in preserving 6 Commerce.
