Youth Softball Highlights

U14

Rich’s Keys & Locks 14, Stone Construction 14 – Katie Appley, Diana Carozza and Erin Begg each had two hits for Rich’s Keys & Locks in a hard fought battle in Southbury. Colleen Durkin and Tori Picerno also had solid hits. Taylor Demerjian pitched a couple of strong innings, and Sarah Connor, Katie Fossum and Katie Salaris excelled in the field.

Rich’s Keys & Locks 14, Brookfield 11 – Tori Picero made a catch and throw to Katie Salaris waiting at second base to complete a double play, MaryBeth Meir made a nice catch at first base and Sarah Connor and Kelly Ann McCarthy had valuable contributions at first base. Katie Appley, Taylor Demerjian and Dianna Carozza pitched well for Rich’s. Offensively, Erin Begg led the way going 5-for-5 and scoring 3 times, Megan Duero was 3-for-5 and Colleen Durkin was 2-for-4, including a triple.

U14 IN-HOUSE

designerbodies 19, Brookfield 4 – With half of the team on a class trip to Washington, DC the designerbodies recruited four U12 players and handily defeated Brookfield. Ashley Perry had three hits, scored five runs and pitched two strong innings. Lillia McEnaney had two hits and 4 RBI, Alena Ruscoe had three hits and 3 RBI and Julia Frattaroli had two hits and 2 RBI. Courtney Escoda made a great catch at shortstop and Frattaroli played well behind the plate.

designerbodies 20, Valley Provisions Boar’s Head 15 – Jenna Poeltl had a big hit and 3 RBI and Mallorie Dunn had 2 hits and 2 RBI to continue the offensive attack from designerbodies. Annamarie Lewis and Amanda Rowan contributed two hits each, Katelyn Dandrea drove in a run with a hit, and Lydia Post scored four runs. Rhea Schneider, Morgan D’Avola, and Ashley Perry all pitched well and Elizabeth Grimes played well defensively.

U12

Villa Restaurant 10, JP Maguire 6 – For the Villa, Alena Ruscoe pitched 3 strong innings, as did Mareena Mallory in relief. Shaina Stamp and Mareena Mallory led the offense, each driving in 2 runs, and Julia LeBlanc collected 2 hits.. Defensively, Alena Ruscoe snagged a hot line drive hit up the middle by JP Maguire’s Katlin Gibney. Rebecca Vodola made a nicethrow to first base in the second inning. Meghan Logan led the offense for JP Maguire with 4 hits, including a triple and Katilin Gibney collected 2 hits. Julia Frattaroli pitched 3 strong innings.

Dr Curtis Beck 13, Carminuccio’s Pizza 6 – Dr. Beck enjoyed gutsy debut pitching performances by Sarah Hull and Anna Grillo, and Juliana Sansonetti knocked in a key RBI in her first plate appearance. For Carminuccio’s, Mariah Joy and Emily Nacewicz  had outstanding games both defensively and offensively, and Hanna Godbout pitched three strong innings and made a flip to the plate to cut down a run.

Dr Curtis Beck 8, Villa Restaurant 7 – Georgia Contois drove in the game winning run in the bottom of the sixth to give Dr. Beck the walk-off victory in a tight game. For Dr. Beck, Maggie Kase played a great game behind the plate and contributed key hits, and Courtney Escoda and Katie Tomascak turned brilliant fielding plays to keep their tough opponents off the bases. For the Villa Restaurant Pink Panthers, Alena Ruscoe, Ivy Lee and Mareena Mallory shared pitching duties. Swinging the bat hard for the Pink Panthers were Shaina Stamp, Julia LeBlanc, Casey French, and Hope McMorran. Defensively, Shaina Evanko, Mattie Kellie, and Rebecca Vodola all made nice plays.  

Dr Curtis Beck 15, Newtown Pools 7 – Maggie Kase led the offensive attack with 4 RBI and Claire Miles and Georgia Contois chipped in with explosive at-bats leading the Dr Beck team to the win. Lillia McEnaney, Jess Oliger, and Olivia Avery made key defensive plays in a hard fought win over a very tough Newtown Pools team. Newtown Pools played a gritty game with some solid hitting from Emily Paloian and Brainna Bauch, and extra-base hits from Lauren McMahon and Mallory Ames. Some key defensive plays by were made by Lillia Hutchison, Callie Furphy, and Heather Leone.

U 10

Taunton Press 2, Comfortable Living Floors 1 – For Taunton Press, Caitlyn Linden went 2-for-2 and scored both runs. Amanda Vitti, had a solid inning at first base. Rose Pagett contributed with a solid pitching performance. For Comfortable Living Wood Floors, Molly Begg, Bridget Deuro and Emily Woznick pitched well, and Caroline Tanner and Madeline Meier played great defense. Emily Bell and Emma Short had great games.

Tie-Comfortable Living Floors, Tie-Newtown General Store – For Newtown General Store, Marissa Leone had go ahead RBI single. Catcher Brooke Hadgraft made a key play at home plate for an out and Tonya Tucker pitched well. Julia Scarangella, Emma Maki and Grace Frost of Comfortable Living Wood Floors hit well, and Callan Rafferty contributed with solid defense

 12 AND UNDER

Carminuccio’s Pizza 15, Newtown Pools 14 – Carminuccio’s Pizza held off Newtown Pool’s last-inning rally to come out with the win. Hannah Godbout, Emily Nacewicz and Sarah Clements all pitched well in the win. A close play at the plate with Sydney Hutchison sliding in just under the tag proved to be the difference. Also playing well both offensively and defensively for Carminuccio’s Pizza were Shannon O’Gorman, Erin Bernardi and Kara Clement. Newtown Pools rallied in the last inning only to come up short leaving the tying run at third base. Swinging the bats well for Newtown Pools were Mallory Ames, Lillia Hutchison and Heather Leone. Faaria Ansari, Callie Furphy and Nicole Chaloux also played well.
