Brestovansky Tops, NHS Team Second In Woodland Invitational

Newtown High School's boys' golf team, led by David Brestovansky's first-place score of 78, Newtown High School's boys' golf team placed second among 16 teams in this past weekend's Woodland Invitational. NHS shot 366, and Joel Barlow of Redding carded a 364 for the top score.

The Nighthawks edged host Pomperaug of Southbury 173-174 at Heritage Village Country Club on May 1. Brestovansky and Jimmy Davies both shot a 41 for medalist honors. Tim Davis had a 44, Trevor Hislop 51, and Jake Mailloux had a 47.

In a May 6 home match with Stratford, at Rock Ridge Country Club, Newtown shot a 168 and Stratford had a 277. Brestovansky was medalist with a 38. Hislop shot a 39, Mailloux and Alex Walton both had 47, Davis 44, and Dillon Larkin 44.

Newtown won a competitive match with visiting Masuk of Monroe the next day, 174-182. Brestovansky again led the way, carding a 40, followed by Davis with a 42. Hislop had a 47, Davies 45, Mailloux 49, and Adam Kliczewski had a 47. Newtown improved to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the South-West Conference.

The girls' golf team shot 216 and defeated Stratford (290) and Lauralton Hall (226) on May 1. Gigi Marino shot a 56, Nidhi Mukka carded a 54, Cailin Wilson 53, and Kendall Reed 54.

In a May 6 match with Masuk of Monroe, the Nighthawk girls shot a 210 to Masuk's 244. Abby Watson had a 66, Mukka 56, Wilson 59, and Reed 63.

Newtown lost a close one with Immaculate of Danbury on May 7, 228-224. Marino, Mukka, and Wilson each had a 56, and Watson carded a 60.
