Bellamy-Ferriday Offers Second Year Of Art And Nature Camp
Bellamy-Ferriday Offers Second Year
Of Art And Nature Camp
Bethlehem â After a successful first year, the Kids Art and Nature Camp continues at the Bellamy-Ferriday House and Garden this summer. There will be one session in June and one in July. The camp offers children an opportunity to explore, discover, and learn about the links between art and nature.
Drawing and watercolor activities will be linked with outdoor exploration of the Bellamy Gardens and the Bellamy Preserve, a Bethlehem Land Trust property. Children will make a keepsake journal and fill it with tree and plant identification; explore patterns, textures and colors in nature; participate in a scavenger hunt; and take guided walks through the Bellamyâs three different environments: garden, orchard and woods.
Classes are co-taught by watercolor artist Betsy Rogers-Knox and pianist Nancy McMillan. Both teachers have conducted Art, Music and Nature classes at Lilly Hill Studio in Bethlehem.
Betsy Rogers-Knox is an established botanical artist whose published work includes cover designs, illustrations, and more than 30 greeting card designs. She received a certificate in Botanical Illustration from the New York Botanical Gardens. Ms Rogers-Knox teaches drawing and painting, and also conducts numerous botanical art watercolor workshops.
Nancy McMillan is a pianist, teacher and performer. Most recently she was part of a duo, Rags to Riches, with vocalist Becca Anderson. In 2003, she was a recipient of the Jane and Michael Sendzimir Scholarship for women musicians. She has brought her programs on women composers to colleges and universities in New England, as well as other schools and professional organizations.
She is co-author and co-performer, with Gretchen Trapp, of the chamber-theater piece âClara Schumann: A Passionate Spirit,â which was presented at Naugatuck Valley Community College in 2003. Ms McMillan maintains a private teaching studio in Bethlehem.Â
Session 1 will be held June 22â28 from 9:30 to noon; Session 2 will run July 23â26 from 1 to 3:30 pm. The camp is appropriate for children ages 6 to 11. Cost per session is $150.
