Hands-On History

Monroe Historical Society will present its annual three-morning Hands on History Program for children June 25–27 at the 1770 Eliot Beardsley House, 31 Great Ring Road.

The program is geared for children entering grades three to eight. Children will make ice cream and cook, dip candles, weave, dye and spin wool, make and play a variety of toys and games, and do arts and crafts of past times.

The fee is $60 for members and $75 for nonmembers. Activities will run from 9:30 to 12:30 each day. Call 268-5511 to reserve a space.

Society volunteers have offered this program for more than 20 years and several participants have returned as teenagers to help. There are opportunities for high school students to earn volunteer credits by assisting the society with this and other programs. Students are invited to write 200 words or less to the Society at Box 212, Monroe CT 06468, to explain why they would like to help with the Hands on History Program.
