Here We Go Again
Here We Go Again
To the Editor:
Itâs that time of year. Time to jump through the hoops over and over again to try and stop our local politicians who want what they want and seem to forget about the people paying the bills. âI want a new high school.â âI want a new elevator, and then I want a new town hall with another new elevator!â âMoney is no object weâll just borrow more, and when it comes time to pay it back weâll move to Florida and retire.â The whole point of representative government is to enable citizens to live their lives without having to devote days of time to running the town government.
In any event we will be signing petitions this year to force another machine vote at the following locations, and for those of us volunteering to get it done, it would be nice to complete it in one day. If you want to sign or know somebody who does there will be volunteers at the Big Y and Stop & Shop parking lots Saturday morning, May 12, starting at 9 am until we have the five percent of the electorate or roughly 800 signatures we need to force another machine vote. I would anticipate that each machine vote from here on in will save the taxpayers about $1 million so the effort is worth it. All of this presupposes that the Legislative Council gets its act together tonight and provides Cindy Simon with a new number by Friday. If this doesnât happen, we will put a note in next weekâs Bee. See you Saturday.
