Is Newtown Competing
With American Idol?
To the Editor,
I donât believe the results of the town vote are reflective of the actual feelings of most Newtown residents. Unfortunately, most Newtown residents donât go out and vote! Most people talk about change and love to complain, but when push comes to shove, theyâd rather stay home, or find excuses why they canât take the total of 20 minutes to drive to the middle school, park, and vote.
I canât help but wonder how many of the 15,957 eligible voters made sure they were glued to the television last night watching American Idol for an hour and then staying up later to make sure they voted for their favorite contestant. Where are our priorities? If you voted for American Idol and not for your own town, shame on you!
On the other hand, there is a lack of forward thinking in this town as a whole. I used to laugh when my mom told me that Newtown reminds her of Stamford back in the 1940s, but I canât laugh anymore; sheâs right.
