Natural History Art Show And Walking Tour At Highstead

REDDING — The Greater New York Guild of Natural Science Illustrators will return to Highstead this spring with a new exhibition of artwork titled “Butterflies, Moths and Pollinating Insects of the East Coast.”

Over thirty artists are represented in this year’s show, which features 43 original works illustrating the symbiotic relationship between individual species of insects and the specific plants that depend on and sustain them. A fine art replication of this exhibit has been developed for educational purposes and will travel throughout the tri-state area.

Exhibiting artists will be on hand to discuss their work at a reception on Saturday, May 19, 1 to 5 pm, at the Highstead Barn, 127 Lonetown Road.

Highstead’s walking trails will be open to visitors throughout the afternoon for unescorted exploration of the Arboretum.

For those who would like to learn about the ecology and natural history of Highstead’s woodland, Ed Faison, forest ecologist, will lead a tour at 3 pm. Appropriate footwear is advisable, as part of the walk will be off-trail. Group size for the tour will be limited to 15 people; call the Arboretum for a reservation at 203-938-8809.

The art show is available for viewing, by appointment, until June 22.
