Occupation: I am a Kindergarten teacher at Wesley Learning Center in Sandy Hook. I’ve been there for 12 years.

Family: My husband Chuck and I have been married almost 26 years and we have two sons. Our son Andrew is 23 and he works and lives in Stamford. Alex is 20 and goes to college in Boston.

What is the best thing about being a kindergarten teacher? I love being with kids when they first learn, when they realize they can read and write. They get so excited. The kids are so wonderful. I love getting up and going in to work every day.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have been here for 18 years.

What do you like to do in your free time? I paint and I love to read. I’m just finishing a series of oil paintings from photographs I took in Italy last year. My husband makes the frames, so they’re all perfect for each painting.

Do you have a favorite author? I have a lot of favorite authors. I like Stuart Woods, James Patterson, and Jodi Picoult. I like Michael Connelly. I’m always looking for new things to read. I’m in the library constantly. It’s my home away from home. I love the people who work there.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? That would have to be Italy. We went last summer for our 25th anniversary. We started in Rome and spent the rest of the time in Tuscany. We rented a car and drove through the whole Tuscany area and toured a lot of vineyards. The people there are just fun.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I guess all of the familiar faces you see wherever you go. It’s nice to chat and catch up on things.

Who do you most admire? I admire people who look at the bright side of things and can find good in absolutely anything.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Life is very short and very precious. You should enjoy every minute and smile and laugh as much as possible.

What is the most important lesson you have learned? To treat people kindly, the way you would like to be treated.
