The Newtown Road Race Committee announced this week that Praxair will sponsor the Kid’s Fun Run at the second annual Newtown Road Race.

The Praxair Kid’s Fun Run will take place on September 1 at 10:15 am – immediately following the the 5K Road Race 5K at Dickenson Park. Praxair has contributed $2,500 to Newtown Youth and Family Services to become the named sponsor of the event, which will help support Newtown Youth and Family Services’ many programs that benefit the children and families of Newtown.

The fun run attracted more than 150 children last year. Between the Kid’s Run and the 5K event, the Newtown Road Race raised more $25,000 for Newtown Youth and Family Services.

“Praxair is proud to be a sponsor of the Newtown Road Race and support Newtown Youth and Family Services,” said Joann B. Hetzer of Praxair, Inc. “The company likes to support employee volunteers who help organizations improve life in our communities.”

Jen Madej, sponsorship chairperson for the Newtown Road Race, said “The generous support of our event impacts the lives of so many children here in Newtown. It keeps such great programs like the Job Bank, Super Sitters and all the different support and activity groups for youths going. We’re very thankful to Praxair for their support and to be associated with them.”

William Decker, event day chairperson, added, “We worked hard last year to make the Kid’s Fun Run a great event for all the kids. The Praxair Kid’s Fun Run this year will be even better. Besides the run itself, we’re going to have games, activities and lots of giveaways. Of course every child will receive a medal.”

Steve Meeker, race director, said, “The Praxair Kid’s Fun Run motivates children to shut off the TV and get active. At the same time the adults participating in the 5K race serve as role models for these kids, teaching them that exercise is a life-long need. And can be fun, too!”

Sponsorship opportunities for the 2007 race are still available. For more information about volunteering, sponsorship or the race, visit newtownroadrace.com.
