Victorian Women And Their Fashions

LITCHFIELD — On Sunday, May 20, Litchfield Historical Society (LHS) will host guest speaker and performer Barbara Meyer Darlin as she presents “Unlacing the Victorian Woman,” a program that has been described as a one-woman fashion show, a social history lesson, and a Victorian striptease.

Ms Darlin will explain women’s role in Victorian society including daily routines, social customs, and etiquette. She will also perform two on-stage costume changes, illustrating the intricacies of Victorian fashion and the social circumstances for the multiple layers of clothing women were expected to wear.

The program will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 pm at Litchfield History Museum, which is at 7 South Street. A tea will follow.

The program is $15 for LHS members, $20 for non-members, and $5 for children 12 and under. To register, call the museum at 860-567-4501 or email CBarbacci@LitchfieldHistoricalSociety.org by Thursday, May 17.
