Women Of Townâs Churches Celebrated Friends & Friendship
Dolores Lussier of St Rose and Marilyn Alexander of Newtown Congregational Church enriched the Church Women Unitedâs May Friendship Day Celebration coordinated by Linda Manganaro, CWU-Newtown unit celebrations chairperson. The program, âFriends Under Godâs Wing,â was held at Nunnawauk Meadows on the afternoon of May 4.
Friendship was Mrs Alexanderâs topic as she spoke about those who had influenced and helped her throughout her life and she led attendees in singing âMake New Friends.â
Mrs Lussier added her voice to lead the singing of âUnder Eaglesâ Wings.â She soloed on the verses and everyone joined in for the refrain. Deacon the Rev Sue Klein of Newtown United Methodist Church was the organist and accompanist.
The Revs Lee Moore and Janice Touloukian of Newtown Congregational Church participated in the afternoonâs Bible study, woven within the celebration program by Mrs Manganaro. Participants met in small groups to discuss âWhat is friendship?â âHow does friendship start?â âWhat ends a friendship?â âWhat is the most unlikely friendship youâve every had?â and âWhat can you learn about Godâs wings from such a friendship?â
The second part of the program encouraged the participants to question themselves on what they could do for people in difficult situations such as poverty, abuse, without health care, homeless, lonely, etc. They were asked what touches the heart and moves one to tears, what injustices make them indignant, and what they could do to correct the situation. Each small group reported back to all those gathered.
Guests from Nunnawauk and area churches joined the CWU members for homemade refreshments following the event and many took home the spring bouquets prepared by Mrs Manganaro.
