Honor The Right To Vote
Honor The Right To Vote
To the Editor:
In 1848 in Seneca Falls, N.Y., the very first womenâs rights convention was held. In 1869, Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton formed the National Woman Suffrage Association. Their goal was to push for an amendment to the Constitution giving women the right to vote. In 1913, Alice Paul and Lucy Burns formed the Congressional Union, later renamed the National Womenâs Party. They banded together and actually picketed the White House calling for the right to vote for women. Finally, in 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution is signed into law thereby granting women the right to vote.
It has been a long, hard road. Please take a moment on Tuesday, May 15, and get out and vote on the budget referendum. Like the women who have come before you, your voice will be heard!
