NHS Athletes Sign To Compete In College

Newtown High School track and field standout Lauren O’Connell and fellow senior Jessica Lajoie, a rower, both signed their National Letters of Intent to compete in college next year. O’Connell, who holds the school record in the pole vault and triple jump events, and was a first team All South-West Conference selection in the winter indoor campaign, was recruited to compete in the pole vault event at the University of Connecticut.

Lajoie signed her National Letter of Intent to compete on the Fordham University crew team. Lajoie, a sculler who competes through the GMS Rowing Center in New Milford, is among the top-20 junior women rowers in the country and has competed in events in and out of the country.
