Obituary Descriptions Unnecessary
Obituary Descriptions Unnecessary
To the Editor:
This letter is in response to the letter written by Erin Doyle [âA Meaningless Description Of A Life,â Letter Hive, 5/4/12] regarding her grandfatherâs obituary. I wholeheartedly agree with her, and have wondered for a while why the description is necessary below the name of the deceased.
It would be one thing if the family wrote it (although still totally unnecessary), but to have the obituary writer decide what was most important in a personâs life is just wrong.
Please consider going back to your previous policy, and just have the deceasedâs name, and not the description underneath it.
Thanks so much for your consideration of this.
Sincerely,
Peggy Baiad

(Editorâs Note: We are convinced. Starting this week the descriptions have been dropped from our obituary headlines.)
