ALBANY, N.Y. â âGreat, Strange, And Rarely Seen: Objects from the Vaultâ is on view through August 26 at the Albany Institute. Being shown are the little known but truly magnificent collections from the Albany Institute, featuring stunning Chinese lacquer, intricately carved Japanese netsuke and Eighteenth Century English porcelain statuettes revealing the cosmopolitan breadth of the instituteâs holdings.
Panoramic photographs, unusual clocks, a chronology of mirrors, womenâs bonnets and hats, British and American fortepianos, and riches from the library can be viewed. Patent models and human hair jewelry demonstrate the ingenious and quirky sides of human creativity.
