Occupation: I’m a custodial supervisor for the town of Trumbull Board of Education.

Family: I’m married to Cathy. We have four children. Jay is 41 and lives in Texas. Daniel is 28 and he also lives in Texas, and is a computer game designer. Tamra is 25 and a dance instructor at Lathrop School of Dance, and our youngest is Michael. He’s 24 and is graduating this month from WestConn.

Pets: We have two cats, L’Oreal and Rev, named for makeup artists. Both were rescue cats and they came with the names. They are siblings to Tamra’s two cats, Maybelline and Max.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve been here, this time, for 30 years. We moved here when I was a child. I attended Sandy Hook School the first year it was open, and I went through grades 5 and 6 at Hawley School. We moved back to Bridgeport, near my mom’s family, after that. I always wanted to move back here.

What do you like to do in your free time? I used to buy, trade, and sell hobby trains, but I’ve gotten away from that. I was into trains since I was young. I remember when the train derailed in 1958 at the depot on Church Hill Road. That just blew me away. I go to the car cruise now, Tuesdays, in the Burgerittoville parking lot and around the area. I have two 1988 Corvettes. My main thing is hunting. My dad taught me hunting and archery. I used to compete at the Granite Ledge archery range that was just off of Currituck Road. My dad and I hunt together and we used to do bow hunting, but switched to rifles. The deer were spooking at 100 feet. Usually we go to New Hampshire to hunt. I like a hard hunt. It’s like detective work. I like the challenge of meeting the deer one on one. There’s a lot to it.

Do you have a favorite sports team? I don’t get really involved with them, but I do enjoy watching the Yankees play.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We enjoy going to our property down in West Virginia. We’re looking to retire there in a couple of years. My grandmother came from Barbados, so I’ve been to three of the islands down there. I get a kick out of the whole aspect of being there. I love the music and the kettle drums there. But there’s still a lot of our own country we have yet to explore.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I like that it has taken Newtown a long time to change commercially. There are still farms, and I have a lot of memories here. I still look up at the dome in the Edmond Town Hall Theatre when we go to watch Tamra dance, and reflect on my childhood here. Newtown really is a part of me. It will be bittersweet when we move.

What is the biggest change you have seen in town? Well, business has to come in. The stores are bigger and not so family oriented as they used to be. It bothers me a little that so many people move in to town now, and then are gone in just a few years. People used to stay put for a long time.

Who has been the greatest influence on your life? One not so tangible would be Jesus Christ. But on a more tangible basis, I would say every soldier who has served our country. They’re all my heroes. I served in the reserves during the Vietnam era. What I saw going on with the treatment the soldiers received when they came back was appalling. It had a big impact on me. When I see kids come home these days, I go out of my way to shake their hands and thank them. It’s important to me.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Don’t get overly stressed. Don’t worry about what might happen. What will be, will be.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I enjoy flavored cigars, but I don’t smoke them much. It’s a car cruise thing.
