Quintessentials Mother's Day Performance
Quintessentials Motherâs Day Performance
REDDING â The Quintessentials, a Manhattanville College singing group, will perform at First Church of Christ Congregational, 25 Cross Highway, just off Route 107, on Motherâs Day Sunday, May 13, at 4 pm.
The group has been delighting audiences with their energetic, close-harmony renditions of American popular standards since 2001. Directed by Mark Cherry and Beverly Meyer, the group is an official ensemble of the Manhattanville College Music Department, representing some of the collegeâs best performing arts programs.
Mr Cherry has been teaching at Manhattanville since 1996, and was named Artist-in-Residence for Musical Theatre in 2004. He has been stage and musical director for the collegeâs musical productions, and has been instrumental in developing the musical theatre major.
Ms Meyer has been at Manhattanville College since 1999, assisting Mr Cherry with Musical Theatre productions, Cabaret Performance Workshop, and The Quintessentials. She also serves as the Musical Theatre coach/accompanist for voice students and is musical director for the Dance for Musical Theatre class.
This yearâs song list ranges from Al Jarreauâs âMorninââ to Cole Porterâs âEvâry Time We Say Goodbye,â with stops along the way for a bit of âBye, Bye Birdie,â a little Fats Waller, some medieval knights and âStuff Like That.â
The group of 12 singers sing in up to eight parts, with a few smooth moves thrown in to complete the show. They have performed for organizations ranging from Westchester Hospice to the United Nation, and have sung in New York City at The Rainbow Rom, The Metropolitan Club, Gotham Hall and The Bronx Zoo.
Refreshments will be served in the churchâs social hall following the performance.
Tickets are $15 per person, $25 for couples or families, and $10 for students. The group is generously donating the proceeds from Sundayâs performance to the church.
