Newtown Police called in the State Major Crimes Squad Monday to search the home of missing person Regina Brown for clues to the cause of her disappearance, but said no new information is likely to turn up from that search. Mrs Brown was reported missing on April 2 by a neighbor. Newtown police were âfollowing the natural progression of the investigationâ when they called in specialists from the major crime squad. Newtown police are also still waiting for results of testing of materials taken from Mrs Brownâs car, which was found abandoned on April 6 in Manhattan. Mrs Brown was last seen on March 26 by her live-in babysitter.

Newtown High School athletic director Bob Sveda was ecstatic as he toured the schoolâs two recently refurbished fields one day last week. âWeâve now got the best baseball and softball fields in the conference,â he said. The baseball field has improved yearly after reaching a low point some years ago when it was in such poor condition that it was closed.

Elementary school students gave a demonstration for physical fitness to an enthusiastic audience of parents and teachers at the Sandy Hook School Association meeting on Tuesday evening, May 15. The boys and girls participated in an exhibition of skills acquired in the elementary physical education program. Such activities as squat thrusts, push-ups, pull-ups, and mini-trampoline exercises proved to the audience that the youngsters are not as soft as might be expected in these days of easy living.

The Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners, headed by L.T. Pelletier, sent a letter to the Board of Selectmen, in which the fire board requested action on an appropriation of $200,000 for improvement of the townâs fire protection. The fire commissioners in their request noted the rapid growth of the town, the need of improved fire protection, and the desirability of the erection of a central fire house adjacent to the town hall.

A new volunteer activity, a dress shop for women patients, is scheduled to begin at Fairfield State Hospital. The shop will be called âThe Style Shop.â The pleasure of choosing a dress, coat or shoes is very often denied many of the women patients who have no relatives or friends who can provide this kindness. With the creation of The Style Shop, women patients will be able to enjoy selecting articles of clothing which they like and will be happy to call their own.

Dr Waldo F. Desmond, health officer, announces that laboratory tests at Hartford, this Thursday, have determined that the stray dog which bit Arlene Dauscher and Hazel Wilcox, in Botsford, Wednesday evening, was suffering from rabies. The dog was shot by Joe Busser, when it attacked him. Dr Desmond is obtaining serum and will administer Pasteur treatment to the two victims. It is believed that the stray dog came from the vicinity for Monroe, where a quarantine has been in effect for some little time.

Sanders of New York, who acquired the Budhosâ property in the Dodgingtown section of Newtown, has completed improvements to the property which makes if one of the most attractive summer homes in this section. The old stone cottage has been reconstructed into a Normandy Dutch type farm cottage, occupying an attractive landscaped hillside, with brook, which has been converted into a small lake of artistic beauty.

Through the courtesy of one of Danburyâs famous hat manufacturers, the lucky young lady who receives the greatest number of votes, at one cent each, during the Young Peopleâs two-day Round-Up, on this Friday and Saturday at the Edmond gymnasium, will receive a real broad-brimmed western felt sombrero. Much excitement is already stirring as to which of the several likely girls will be chosen, or whether some young lady from Woodbury or New Milford or Danbury will be so solidly backed by her townspeople that she will be the favorite. Proceeds all go to send delegates to the Summer Conferences for Young Peopleâs Clubs.

Arthur J. Smith, manager of Edmond Town Hall, is installing in the theater, this week, the latest type apparatus made by Western Electric Research Laboratories and recognized as the greatest advance yet made in motion picture sound reproduction. This new invention is known as Mirrophonic Sound. It will give the audience all the overtones of voices and sounds.

Charles F. Beardsley is making large shipments of his prime quality asparagus, his entire product being handled by one of the large fancy grocers of New Haven. On Saturday he cut two and one half bushels of asparagus, which is bunched by a machine and neatly tied. Each package bears a label, âSunny View Farm Asparagus, Newtown, Charles F. Beardsley.â

Fishermen are having great luck at O.E. Morganâs pond in Hattertown. Fishermen on Monday took out bullheads, some of which weighed two and one-half pounds. One fisherman caught 100 fish. Mr Morgan says in the 18 years he has owned the pond he never saw the fishing as good as it is now. Formerly this was known as Castle Meadow Lake.

A delightful little dancing party took place in Gloverâs hall, Sandy Hook, Tuesday evening, with Miss Marion Curtiss as the hostess. The stage front was decorated with bouquets of apple blossoms. But more lovely than the flowers of the field and orchard were the handsome bevy of sweet maidens adorned in white and colors, and bedecked with smart ribbons. There were also there, of course, the young masters who are to be Newtownâs future selectmen, school committees and possible congressmen and governors.

Extensive repairs have been completed on the hose house in the borough, with new roofs. An arrangement has been provided on the inside for drying the hose. The building has been neatly painted, the decorating being done by Robert Gannon. Foreman Gannon, of the Fire Co., plans to removed the dilapidated approach to the building and fill in front with stones and cement.
