AVV 5-10 #699747
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. â The Minneapolis Institute of Arts will present the exhibition, âMary Griep And Jantje Visscher (working title),â on view June 15âAugust 12.
Recent large-scale and meditative works by Minnesota artists Jantje Visscher and Mary Griep invite exploration and contemplation.
Visscherâs minimalist sculptures use forms and patterns found in nature to reflect the way one perceives and relates to the universe. Her large wall works incorporate 4-inch plastic ribbons to create focused light projections and shadows. The resulting patterns engulf the wall while making the plastic seemingly disappear.
Grierâs drawing series of sacred spaces from the Eleventh and Twelfth Centuries, such as Angkor Watt and Notre Dame, explore the underlying nature of buildings that have been through centuries of care, neglect, damage and restoration. Her drawings, some more than 30 feet long, attempt to go beyond surface details and visually express the worldview and tradition of the builders.
The museum is at 2400 Third Avenue South. For more information, www.artsmia.org or 612-870-3131.
