MINNEAPOLIS INSTITUTE TO PRESENT âUZBEK EMBROIDERYâ JUNE 2
AVV 5-10 #699747
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. â The Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) will present an exhibition, âUzbek Embroidery In The Nomadic Tradition,â on view June 2âAugust 26.
Drawn from the collection of Central Asian embroideries given to the MIA in 2004 by Jack and Aviva Robinson, this exhibition features 60 non-utilitarian embroideries such as baby binders, horse covers and wall hangings from the late Nineteenth to early Twentieth Centuries.
Created by people in transition from nomadic to agrarian lifestyles â the horse-breeding Lakai, the agrarian Kungrat and the settled peoples of Samarkand and Bukhara â these textiles reflect the diversity and aesthetic traditions of Central Asia as well as the identity and cultural values of their creators. A fully illustrated catalog accompanies the exhibition.
The museum is at 2400 Third Avenue South. For more information, www.artsmia.org or 612-870-3131.
