Christina Wolf (Southern Connecticut State University softball) –  No. 3 seed Dowling College defeated No. 7 seed Southern Connecticut State University, 1-0, in an elimination game of the 2007 NCAA Division II Softball Northeast Regional. The Lady Owls finished 32-16. Wolf appeared in 35 games, starting 15, and hit .271 for the season (15-of-59) with three doubles, eight RBI and four runs scored. In the field, she made 15 put-outs and registered four assists.

Pete Oggeri (Wentworth Institute of Technology baseball) – WIT dropped a 3-2 decision on May 4 to Roger Williams in the double-elimination CCC Tournament. The school opened with an 11-7 loss to Curry and then defeated Eastern Nazarene, 12-9. The Leopards closed out the year at 13-18 and Oggeri – who started all 31 games – hit .283 for the year (28-of-99) with five doubles, a triple, eight RBI and a team-high 24 runs scored. Oggeri was also walked seven times and was hit by 14 pitches (also as much as the rest of the team combined) while recording a team-high 19 steals in 20 attempts.

Chris Body (Western New England College men’s lacrosse) – In a battle of unbeaten and nationally-ranked teams, No. 3 Western New England College scored six unanswered goals in the deciding third period for a 13-5 victory over No. 17 Keene State College Saturday afternoon (May 12) before 1,235 fans in a second round game of the NCAA Division III Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The victory gave the Golden Bears a 17-0 record and another home contest against defending national champion Cortland State on Wednesday (May 16) in the national quarterfinals. Body made 10 saves in the game and ran his personal record to 16-0-0 (with a 5.21 GAA and .684 save percentage).

Carly Curran (University of Connecticut women’s lacrosse) – With four wins in their last six games, the Lady Huskies improved to 10-6-0 overall. Curran, a freshman defender, appeared in seven games and has scooped two ground balls along the way.

Casey Kirch (Sacred Heart University men’s lacrosse) – Kirch, a co-captain, has appeared in all 12 games for the 4-8 pioneers and has notched a goal and an assist on six shots (four on the cage). Kirch has also scooped 18 ground balls.

John Oliver (St. Mary’s College men’s lacrosse) – Oliver has appeared in all 18 games for the 12-6-0 Seahawks, starting 11, and registered 15 goals with 14 assists for 29 points. Two of his goals were game-winners. The No. 3 seed ‘Hawks dropped a 17-5 decision to No. 1 seed Salisbury in the CAC championship game (Oliver had two ground balls).

Ryan Bigham (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men’s lacrosse) – Behind a goal and a game-high three assists from junior Kevin Russell, St. Lawrence took a 6-1 lead at halftime and went on to score four more for a 10-4 victory over Rensselaer in the semifinals of the Liberty League tournament. The Red Hawks wrap up the 2007 season at 10-5. Bigham, a graduate of Trinity-Pawling, finished the year with a goal and two assists while appearing in 13 games (starting one). He also scooped 10 groundballs along the way.

Pete Meisel (Bates College baseball) – A relief pitcher making his fourth career start, Meisel took a hard-luck, 2-1 loss to Fisher in the 2001 season finale. Meisel, a senior, allowed the Falcons only two runs on eight hits and no walks while striking out six batters. In the last inning, he fanned two with a runner on second. For the year, the Bobcats were 7-22 overall. Meisel was 0-1 with a 3.04 ERA, best on the team. He appeared in nine games and in 23.7 innings allowed 25 hits (just three for extra bases) and eight earned runs while walking five and striking out 14.

Brian Sharnick (Brown University men’s lacrosse) – The Bears fell to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the Ivy League after an 8-7 loss to Princeton on May 5. Sharnick started all 14 games for the Bears and has scooped 10 ground balls.

David Kugielsky (Savannah College of Art & Design men’s lacrosse) – The Savannah College of Art and Design men’s lacrosse team, ranked 14th nationally, finished the season with a 9-6 record (the nine wins are the most recorded in a season in the short history of the program) and pounded Furman University, 15-5, in the first round of the SLEC tournament before falling to No. 2 Emory, 11-4. Kugielsky had a goal and an assist in the win over Furman.

Pat Coakley (Ohio Wesleyan University baseball) – With a 12-7 win over Wooster in the NCAA Division III regional, the Bishops improved to 24-14 overall. The Bishops will meet Otterbein on Wednesday, May 16.

Kim Solheim (Christopher Newport University women’s lacrosse) – With a 12-6 loss to Roanoke on May 9, the Lady Captains concluded the season at 12-5-0. Solheim, a freshman D-wing and center, appeared in 12 games and registered two shots while scooping six ground balls.

Jenna Van Waalwijk (Muhlenberg College women’s softball) – The Lady Mules concluded the regular season at 9-23 overall. In a doubleheader sweep of Washington back on April 14, Van Waalwijk was 4-for-5 with a two and two RBI.

Allison Frobey (Plymouth State University women’s soccer) – Senior Allison Frobey was recently presented with a Panther Award in a ceremony hosted by university president Sara Jayne Steen. Each of the 19 PSU athletic teams, plus athletic training, present a Panther Award to the individual in their program who best represents Plymouth State on the field, in the classroom and in the community, with each of the teams setting its own specific criteria for the award. The recipients are recognized publicly in a department ceremony that includes more than 300 student-athletes.
