Friends Had The Best Of Intentions
Friends Had The Best Of Intentions
To the Editor:
I have had the pleasure of knowing the Gissen family for the last four years. When my son showed me the invitation for the after-prom party I felt very comfortable knowing that he would be at a home of people who truly care about the safety and welfare of our children. All the âinvitedâ guests were well aware of the fact that drugs and alcohol were not allowed at this party.
It amazes me that people who had no connection to this after-prom party âknewâ so much, when the Gissen family had no knowledge that the evening that they had planned for their son and his friends, to give them a safe substance-free place to gather, would turn into a living nightmare for them.
It is interesting to me that when something bad happens to someone, how quickly people forget the good things these same individuals have done for their community. Tom has spent countless hours on the Board of Education to help ensure quality education for our children. Ted is a volunteer firefighter who also devotes countless hours of his time to serve this community.
I urge everyone to get the facts before they make accusations and false statements. Tom and Lisa had the best of intentions for the seniors that were invited to their home. It was their desire to give them a drug- and alcohol-free place to spend the remainder of the evening after their Senior Prom. Unfortunately for them other disrespectful, uninvited people had other plans.
I commend those students and parents who have stood by to offer their friendship, respect, and support for Tom, Lisa, and the entire Gissen family.
They are good people who had nothing but the best of intentions.
