Petition For

Choice

To the Editor:

Last week’s voter petition never got off the ground. It never had to because the selectmen recognized that this should be a matter for the voters to decide, and approved going to a third machine counted referendum in lieu of holding a “town meeting” as called for in the charter. In thinking about how to improve our situation with respect to this and future budgets it occurs to me that we need to make two changes to the town charter. The first is to do away with the “Town Meeting” provision and stick with a machine vote until something passes. The second is to split the BOE and selectmen’s budget into two numbers to be approved separately.

The Charter Revision Commission is currently working on updating the charter but neither of these changes has been made, being dismissed as “Too divisive.” This is the commission and how they can be contacted if you feel that these proposals are not “Too divisive:”

Cramer, Alvah R. 426-9766 (loon.ctme@sbcglobal.net) Partridge Lane

Frampton, Lereine M. 426-3976 (lereine@charter.net) 6 Pebble Road

Hemingway, Joseph M. 270-7060 (jhshct@aol.com) 10 Overlook Knoll

Howard, Guy W. 426-6188 (gwhoward@yahoo.com) 10 Elizabeth Street

Plouffe, Joan F. 364-9734 (jplouffe@earthlink.net) 9 Sturges Road

Signorelli, Carolyn A. 426-3565, 18 Chimney Swift Drive

Let’s let them know how we feel, and don’t forget to vote Tuesday.
