Speaker Will Address Exercise And Diabetes
DANBURY â The Diabetes Club of Danbury, a support group for people with diabetes, their families and friends, features a series of guest speaker programs at Danbury Hospital. The next meeting of the Diabetes Club of Danbury takes place Monday, May 21, from 7:30 to 9 pm.
The featured guest speaker will be Rick Philbin, MBA, MEd, ATC, a regional manager for Animas Corporation, an insulin pump company, where he manages a team of territory managers in the Northeast. Prior to joining Animas, Mr Philbin managed a comprehensive sports medicine center, Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy in the Washington, D.C., area, where he still serves as a member of the board of directors for the Diabetes, Exercise and Sports Association, and a national presenter for children with diabetes on sports and diabetes.
Mr Philbin completed his undergraduate studies and earned a bachelor of sScience degree with specialization in athletic training at Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania. He attained a masterâs in education with an emphasis in sports management from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, and recently completed a masterâs in business administration/health care management from the University of Phoenix.
As an avid exercise enthusiast with Type I diabetes, Mr Philbin practices tight management of his diabetes while using an insulin pump. He will address the importance of exercise as it relates to the treatment of diabetes.
