Gerald B. Fredlund

Gerald B. “Jerry” Fredlund, 76, died May 15, in Sebastian, Fla., after a short illness. He was born August 27, 1935, in New Milford, to Florence Elmira Brown Fredlund and Julius Axel Fredlund.

He is survived by his three children, Christal Preszler, and her husband Todd, of Newtown, April Daryanani, and her husband Raj, of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and Catherine Ferris of New Milford; four grandchildren; his brother, Gene; a niece and nephew, two grand-nieces, and his dear friend, Evelyn Ricard.

Mr Fredlund joined the US Marine Corps in 1954, where he attained the rank of sergeant. He was honorably discharged in 1957.

A lineman and installer for Southern New England Telephone Company, he retired in 1987 after more than 30 years with the company.

Mr Fredlund was a dedicated member of the Free and Accepted Masons for more than 50 years, twice serving as Grand Master of St Peter’s Lodge in New Milford, and more recently as a member of the Masonic Lodge in Sebastian. He was also an active member of the Shriners, including, after his retirement, the Azan Shriners Center in Melbourne, Fla.

An avid motorcyclist, he was a fixture on the roads of Connecticut and Florida well into his seventies. He also enjoyed country music, dancing, and bowling.

Mr Fredlund was a caregiver to a number of friends and family members in their senior years. His humor and heart made him a friend to many.

Friends and family are invited to share memories at the Preszler home, 14 Overlook Drive in Newtown, on Saturday, May 19, from 2 to 4 pm. A ceremony will be held at Arlington National Cemetery later in the year.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Memorial Contributions, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa FL 33607.
