Guided Hike Of Brunot Preserve Saturday Afternoon
Guided Hike Of Brunot Preserve Saturday Afternoon
The Brunot Preserve was established in 1970, and expanded in 1976, through donations by the family of James and Helen Brunot to Newtown Forest Association. Additional donations by the Southworth, Moore, and Whitton families, along with another nine acres acquired in 2010, has expanded the property to its current 77 acres, including two acres in Bethel.
The property includes wetlands, woodlands, and three gorgeous meadows hidden from casual passersby on Taunton Road or Dodgingtown Road.
On Saturday, May 19, NFA member Dr Aaron Coopersmith will lead a guided tour of the property beginning at 1 pm. He will also discuss the geocaches that are hidden within the property, including one that is Scrabble theme in honor of the Brunots, who helped developed the popular board game.
Dr Coopersmith will share the history of the preserve during the walk, which will begin from the Taunton Road parking area designated by NFA less than one mile from the roadâs intersection with Dodgingtown Road.
